A 14 Days Journey Towards Healing

This year when I crossed my 39’th mark on this earth, we (me & Dillu) promised each other of prioritizing one’s health over anything. We would take steps/initiatives and make changes in our lifestyle to achieve that goal. I have been struggling with some health issues for past few years which had started to interfere my day to day life severely for which I have been on medication for several years now and my day to day life had started to revolve around the medication & few other precautions which we have been observing without fail so far.

When things don’t work as expected, we normally try for a reset button. For past few years, we have been thinking of a reset button for ourselves as well. I am here to discuss about such reset button in this blog. When started, there were multiple options and we were overwhelmed. But slowly we brushed off each options prioritizing our needs & capabilities. Thus we arrived at few options, out of which was Dhathri Ayurveda. Finally, after so many ifs & buts, I filled an online call back form on Dhathri’s website. I got a call next day itself from a person named Lancy. This happened in September. We had a discussion over a week & I felt good after collecting enough information from her. She was constantly polite & answered my queries each time. Dillu was onboard by then and I told her we were planning for somewhere in November - December. She disconnected the call stating that she would give me a ring by November first week. Meanwhile I kept collecting information from some other places as well.

As promised, she called me in the first week of November to confirm our dates. When Dillu had come, we had discussed and thought of taking the treatment in January just before he joins for his next contract. I messaged her about the same. But then after our discussion, we wanted to see the place before we confirmed the dates and informed her according to which a date was fixed.

We were welcomed by one Mr. Harshad who was in-house doctor. He showed us the property and explained everything and cleared all our doubts then and there. Once we were happy with that, we decided to go forward with the admission procedures for which doctor consultation was required. There are a panel of doctors headed by Dr.Beena at their main hospital which is 3KM away from the resort. We had a face to face interaction with the team & Dr.Beena and everything was set after which we decided to get admitted in December for a period of 2 weeks. When we raised our concerns one by one, Dr.Beena listened patiently to whatever we said and she gave convincing replies to which we started to look at our problems through a different perspective.

The property is located at a stunning location facing lake. There are 4 waterfront cottages. The property has been fenced beautifully with a jogging path all around along which you can go for morning/evening walks. Morning walks are beautiful with chirping birds whereas evening walks are made beautiful by the setting sun.

Dr.Harshad is the point of contact for anything you need at resort hospital. He is not just a doctor in the premises. If you have any doubt or inconvenience, let him know. There will be a solution within no time. The name of each person/staff at Dhathri deserve a clap whether it be therapists like Ms.Varsha, Ms.Pyari or Ms.Jyothy or housekeeping staff which includes Ms.Sheeja, Ms.Radhika & Ms.Aswathy. I developed a back pain due to sneezing which I randomly mentioned during my conversation with therapists and they massaged it so well that the pain vanished in 2 days. Similarly, there are male therapists for male patients. They were also very warm in behavior. Dillu also had undergone treatments for his ailments and he felt better. The panel of doctors from the main hospital keep visiting every day for regular updates/feedbacks on treatment. Even otherwise, you will meet Dr.Harshad at least 3 times in a day and he keeps visiting his patients to ensure everything is good. Dr.Beena also used to visit us even though not every day. She had same attitude as she had during our hospital visit and her smile at the end gave us a reassurance of getting better every day. The resort hospital has limited number of rooms which requires pre-booking.

When we were in the hospital, all the rooms were occupied and each member were hands on. Still, they carried a welcoming smile on their face always even after working overtime. We don’t know how these 2 weeks went. It is better you come to Dhathri yourself to understand the actual meaning of service. You get a homely feeling with warm people surrounded by. I just hope & pray that, it stays the same all through the coming years without getting dissolved into commercialization. My issue still persists. But I feel rejuvenated and my body accepts the medicine more readily than how it was in past few years. This has opened my heart to believe that I can live better & step out without any fear.

A typical day at Dhathri looks like this.

7.30 AM  : Chukku Kappi                                     8.00 AM : Yoga

9.00 AM : Breakfast                                            11.00 AM : Juice

1.00 PM : Lunch                                           4.30 PM : Chukku Kappi with Snacks

7.00 PM : Dinner

The food served here are normal homely food with less masala, oil, sweet, salt, etc. You will be given special food in case if you have any preexisting condition or diagnosed with any disease at hospital or if contradicts with your medications. The snack accompanied with evening tea is a steamed sweet made out of jaggery. The present diet that is being offered at hospital right now is perfect for people who want to lose weight or do not follow any routine/restrictions back at home. We back at home followed similar kind of diet & timings for food. The only habit which ruined our health was having sweet after every lunch. For breakfast you get any of these : Idli/Sambar, Dosa/Sambar, Puttu/ Payaru curry or Green Peas curry or Kadala curry, Idiyappam/Payaru curry or Green Peas curry or Kadala curry, Appam/Veg stew. For lunch you get rice, 2 stir fried vegetables, pachadi, sambar/moru curry. Dinner : Chapathi with veg curry. The only thing we suggested is that instead of serving chapathi every night, they could serve dishes made out of millets or soup & salad etc. Please note that tea/coffee are not served. Since both of us don’t drink tea/coffee, that was not an issue for us at all. Another thing to be noted is that recovery period is also equally important which equals to the number of days of treatment undergone.

The therapists arrive at 8.00 AM or 9.00 AM depending upon the number of inpatients. The treatment for each person takes around 1.5-2 hours. The days when any of the patients have Vamana (therapeutic vomiting), Virechana (therapeutic purgation) etc. the therapists arrive early than above mentioned time. The treatment time is not fixed all throughout your stay. Your slot will be shifted to an early slot, if the person who came before you get discharged while your stay.

We got a chance to interact with Dr.S.Sajikumar who serves as the chief physician & managing director of Dhathri hospitals who shared few more information regarding Ayurveda & our lifestyle which added insight to few misconceptions we had.

On our day of departure, Sheeja chechi prepared carrot halwa which was the only actual sweet which we had after an interval of 2 weeks. Also she reminded us that hospital is the only place where we never say “meet you again” while bidding a goodbye how much ever we got used to people around you.

Disclaimer : This is not a paid promotion. It is just a write up on how we felt from the beginning & how well it is going so far after our discharge.
